The Water Department will be flushing water mains in areas of the distribution system. The cleaning program will begin at 7:15 a.m. each day and continue till 3:00 p.m.

Engineering Project Information

The Manchester Public Works Department, Engineering Division is typically involved with the surveying, design, inspection, records and GIS data for municipal projects around Manchester and in neighboring communities within the Manchester Water Department Service Area. Project typically include roadway paving, rehabilitation and reconstruction, roadway repair, sidewalk installation and repair, shared-path installation and repair, parking lot improvements, traffic control signals, storm sewer and drainage projects, water main and sanitary sewer main installation and replacement, recreation and park enhancements, and other municipal projects.

Below are a number of recently completed projects, projects currently in construction (or temporarily on hold during Winter Shutdown), and future projects in the planning or design phase. Downtown Manchester Improvements Project

More information about the Downtown Manchester Concept Plan to improve safety through one or more complete streets driven projects.

Safety Improvements: Tolland Turnpike at Buckland St and Adams St

Project to install a new traffic control signal and remove existing channelizing islands. Intersection to be resurfaced. Bus stop enhancements. Bicycle facilities.

Robert Road Neighborhood Improvements

Proposed water main and sanitary sewer replacements within the Robert Road area neighborhood.

Sidewalk Replacements - Carol Drive and Jarvis Road Neighborhoods

Replace concrete sidewalks on Dover Rd, Edison Rd, Fulton Rd, Hendee Rd, Whitney Rd, Jarvis Rd, Carol Dr, Chester Dr and Thomas Dr. Install new sidewalks on Center Street and on Olcott Street (between Thomas Dr and Adams St)

Town Hall Parking Lot Improvements

The Town of Manchester proposes to reconstruct the municipal parking lot serving Town Hall and Fire Station No. 2.

Chestnut Street - Linden Street Area Improvements Phase 1

Proposed water main and sanitary sewer replacements within the Chestnut Street & Linden Street area neighborhoods. Project funded in part through DWSRF.

Oak Grove Street Reconstruction

Proposed reconstruction of Oak Grove Street from its intersection at Autumn Street northeasterly to its intersection at Porter Street.

E Center St Pedestrian Improvement Project

The Town of Manchester Department of Public Works, Engineering Division proposes to install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) on East Center Street at Holl Street and at Benton Street to improve unsignalized pedestrian crossings. Project funded in part through CDBG.

2024 Various Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Installation of pedestrian and bicyclist safety improvements at various locations and streets within the Town of Manchester. Projects designed and initiated by the Dept. of Public Works Engineering Division. More information to come.

Traffic Control Signal Replacements - Middle Turnpike West

Project to install new Traffic Control Signals on Middle Turnpike West at Tower Road and at Green Manor Boulevard. Road diet with Two-Way Left-Turn Lanes. Bicycle facilities. Funded through DPW Bond.

Safety Improvements: Exit 2 Hartford Rd at McKee St & Keeney St

Project to replace existing traffic control signal and install a new traffic control signal at I-384 westbound off-ramp at Keeney St. Geometric improvements and road widening. Intersection to be resurfaced. Bus stop enhancements. Bicycle facilities and improvements to greenway through intersection. This project is funded through CRCOG LOTCIP.

Hartford Road-Bidwell Street Multi-Use Trail Extension

Project to extend the off-road portion of the Charter Oak Greenway along Hartford Road and Bidwell Street between Manchester Community College (Bidwell Street) and the existing terminus (vicinity of Hartford Road at House Drive).

Hop River Trail Extension

Project to extend the Hop River Trail from Colonial Road westerly to Main Street & the existing terminus of the Cheney Rail Trail.

Keeney Street Sidewalk Extension

Proposed project to extend 5 ft-wide concrete sidewalk on the east and west sides of Keeney Street from Garden Grove Road south to Bush Hill Road. Other work to include ADA sidewalk ramps and signing. Project funded in part through CCGP.

Charter Oak Park West

Construction of a synthetic turf soccer field, skate/pump track and 74-stall parking lot at 30 Charter Oak Street (corner of South Main St and Charter Oak St).
