General Project Information

The Town of Manchester Department of Public Works, Engineering Division is proposing various pedestrian, bicyclist, and non-vehicular roadway user safety improvements at various locations throughout the Town of Manchester.  This webpage will be revised to include a variety of projects being proposed, currently in design, currently in construction, and recently completed.  


Broad Street Multi-Use Path Crossing

Rectangular, Rapid Flashing Beacon

The Town of Manchester Department of Public Works, Engineering Division proposes to install at Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon also known as an R.R.F.B at the proposed multi-use path mid-block crossing in the vicinity of the Town owned parcel and parking area located on/at #363 Broad Street, in the Town of Manchester. Other appurtenant work includes installation of sidewalk ramp(s) to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, installation of pedestal foundations, restoration of lawn areas, and traffic control.

This work is funded through the "Center Springs Park Enhancements" Program under the Department of Public Works Capital Budget for FY 2022.


Laurel Marsh/Hockanum River Linear Trail Crossing

The Town of Manchester Department of Public Works, Engineering Division proposes to install at Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon also known as an R.R.F.B at the proposed multi-use path mid-block crossing in the vicinity of the Town owned parcel and parking area located on/at #864 Middle Turnpike West and #951 Middle Turnpike West, in the Town of Manchester. Other appurtenant work includes installation of sidewalks, sidewalk ramp(s) to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, installation of multi-use path, installation of pedestal foundations, restoration of lawn areas, and traffic control.

Project also includes replacement of the Laurel Marsh Trail Parking Lot on the south side of Middle Turnpike West. Other appurtenant work includes new ADA sidewalk connections & ramps, accessible parking space with aisle, new illumination, replacement of existing timber rail, bioswale/infiltration trench for stormwater runoff, restoration of lawn areas, and traffic control.

This work is funded through the "Laurel Marsh Enhancements" Program under the Department of Public Works Capital Budget for FY 2022.  


South Main Street Pedestrian Crossing

The Town of Manchester Department of Public Works, Engineering Division proposes to install at Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon also known as an R.R.F.B at the proposed multi-use path mid-block crossing on Route 83 (S Main Street) in the vicinity of #535 South Main Street, in the Town of Manchester. This work will consolidate the two existing crosswalks into a single crosswalk location at the top of the hill. Other appurtenant work includes installation of sidewalk, sidewalk ramp(s) to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, installation of multi-use path, installation of pedestal foundations, restoration of lawn areas, and traffic control. 

This work (RRFB) is funded through the "Enhanced Pedestrian Crossings" Program under the Department of Public Works Capital Budget for FY 2019.
