Storm Prep: Nor'easter Advisory

The Town of Manchester is actively monitoring weather forecasts indicating a significant Nor’easter expected to impact the region with heavy precipitation and gusty winds. Municipal departments are taking proactive measures and prepping equipment to respond promptly to potential hazards, local flooding, and downed trees or power lines.

We encourage all residents to complete basic storm preparations prior to the onset of severe weather and stay informed through official channels.

Residents can help minimize property damage and street flooding by taking the following precautions:

• Secure Outdoor Items: Bring inside or securely anchor light patio furniture, trash containers, sports equipment, and outdoor decorations before winds increase.
• Clear Drainage Catch Basins: If safe to do so, clear leaves and trash from storm drains near your property to prevent localized street flooding.
• Charge Essential Devices: Ensure mobile phones, tablets, and portable backup batteries are fully charged in anticipation of potential power outages.
• Prepare Emergency Supplies: Check flashlights, battery-operated radios, first-aid kits, and non-perishable food supplies. Use battery-powered lanterns or flashlights rather than open flame candles.

Public Works teams are on standby with equipment ready to respond to fallen limbs, clear blocked storm drains, and maintain municipal infrastructure.

Curbside collection will proceed on schedule unless conditions worsen severely. Please ensure carts are placed securely away from the roadway so they do not impede street drainage or plow/maintenance vehicles.

Town parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities may experience temporary closures if high winds or flooding present safety risks. Updates will be posted on social media and via e-mail distribution lists.

In the event of utility disruptions:

• Report Outages to Eversource: Report electric outages directly to Eversource online at Eversource.com or by phone at 1-800-286-2000.
• Downed Power Lines: Always assume downed wires are live and high-voltage. Maintain a distance of at least 30 feet and immediately call 911 or Eversource.

Driving & Traffic Safety:

• Limit non-essential travel during the peak hours of the storm.
• Exercise caution on roadways and watch for standing water, fallen branches, or deactivated traffic signals.
• Treat any intersection with a non-functioning traffic light as a four-way stop.
