This summer, the Town of Manchester Water and Sewer Department is partnering with M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. to conduct a comprehensive acoustic leak detection survey of the water distribution system. The work supports the Town’s ongoing pipe replacement program by identifying hidden leaks on water mains and hydrants before they escalate into emergency main breaks.

Field crews will systematically listen on accessible mainline valves, fire hydrants, and selected service points using advanced electronic listening devices and computerized leak correlators. This non-invasive approach pinpoints the location and severity of leaks without excavation, allowing the Town to prioritize targeted repairs and planned infrastructure replacements. Early detection reduces non-revenue water loss, protects surrounding infrastructure, lowers the risk of costly emergency repairs, and improves overall system reliability and efficiency.

Please use extra caution when you see M.E. Simpson crew working around town. They will often be positioned along the sides of roadways while conducting the survey—drive carefully, give them space, and watch for their marked vehicles and personnel.
