The Town of Manchester Water Department is in the process of making upgrades to the Globe Hollow Water Treatment Plant. Due to these upgrades, the annual water main flushing program will be moved to Fall 2025.
The Trust will host a CT Trails Day walk on Sunday, June 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Salter’s Pond, 123 Lydall Street. This moderately placed one-mile loop walk is great for families as well as singles. The terrain is somewhat bumpy and sometimes wet, with a set of stairs and some small hills. The pond was formerly a mill pond for Salter and Strong paper mill. It was a Town swimming area from 1946 to 1961 when the current paved pool was built. The Trust acquired the 13-acre property in the 1980 and 1981 from Lydall, Inc. and Green Manor Corporation. Rain or shine, but extreme weather cancels.
Additional walks, celebrating Manchester’s bicentennial are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on • Saturday, May 20, at 146 Hartford Road, • Sunday, May 28, at 41 Center Street, and • Saturday, June 3, at 39 Lodge Drive. See details of the 23 walks in 2023 on the Events page of www.manchesterhistory.org or pick up a printed copy of the booklet at Town Hall or libraries.
