On Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m., at 330 Bush Hill Road, Manchester, the Manchester Land Conservation Trust will lead a free informational walk to our experimental Chestnut tree gardens. Jack Swatt, President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation, will describe the mission of the Foundation and show us the work that has been taking place. Volunteers have planted and weeded. This will be about a 1.5-mile walk round trip. The Foundation's mission is: "restoring a population of healthy chestnut trees to the eastern U.S. hardwood forest. A GCO (germplasm conservation orchard) contains seedlings from different mother trees...It's an orchard collection of diverse wild American chestnut sources, primarily native to Connecticut."
