On Sunday, May 28, at 1:00 p.m., we’ll recognize Manchester’s 200th birthday and the signing by Governor Oliver Ellsworth of Manchester’s incorporation as a town separate from East Hartford. Meet at the front steps of the Town Hall, 41 Center Street. We’ll visit Center church and learn about the role of the Congregational Church in our early government. The present church building at the intersection of Main and Center Streets, is the fifth house of worship for this congregation, and it has been known by nine different names over the years. We’ll walk to Center Memorial Park, glimpsing the former Hall of Records and the Revolutionary War memorial fountain and other landmarks. Rain or shine.
