In the coming weeks, a two-person Arcadis inspection team will conduct in-home service line inspections at select Manchester residences. The public is invited to the 50th history walk in the silk mill district. Find out about the huge brick buildings that remain for the days of the world-famous Cheney Mills. Who worked there? Who owned the mills? Where did the workers and owners live? We'll see Cheney Hall, the former silk mills, remains of the South Manchester Railroad, machine shop, silk vault, and neighborhoods of worker housing. The one-mile walk takes about two hours. Connecticut State College Manchester Professor Paulin will present a lively history of the area, and Town Historian Susan Barlow will present information about the Cheney family.
