Since 1823, the Town Clerk’s office has kept secure the vital records of more than 134,000 births, 55,000 deaths, and 51,000 marriages. 

These documents and more than a million others regarding land transfers and more, tell the story of the Town of Manchester.

Meet the Town Clerk

Bio for Town Clerk Darryl E. Thames, Sr.

Darryl E. Thames Sr.

Darryl E. Thames, Sr. was seated as Town Clerk of Manchester on January 3, 2022. He graduated from Howard University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and English.

 

Prior to being elected to serve as Town Clerk, he was chairman of the Manchester Board of Education. Darryl has made significant contributions on the state/local levels of government and has experience with Community Based Organizations in the nonprofit sector as well. He began his career with the State Department of Social Services and has extensive experience as an administrator for Danbury and Hartford Public Schools. Darryl also worked many years with the City of Hartford and he led and inspired staff in his role as COO of the Urban League of Greater Hartford. He currently serves on the Leadership Team of the town’s School Repurposing Committee, is a member of the Manchester Scholarship Foundation, former board member of the Cheney Foundation and former co-chair of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving - Black Giving Circle Fund.

 

His focus as Town Clerk is to continue digitizing and making available electronically the important records compiled by the Town Clerk’s Office. He also works to ensure that the office continues to recognize and value that it exists to serve the community, holding paramount a commitment to extraordinary customer service and providing a welcoming and helpful environment for the public.

 

He is deeply rooted in securing a brighter future for the Town of Manchester.
