Northwest Park

nwp_header.jpg

This premier 24 acre park on the north end of Manchester features baseball fields, a pond and an observation pier,  playground and boundless playground, rental pavilion, and hiking and walking trails and more!

Northwest Park hosts a number of amenities for the community including high school baseball games, little league games, the Northwest Park Farmers Market and so much more!

For nature lovers and hikers/walkers, the Union Pond Trail portion of the Hockanum River Linear Park extends into Northwest Park. The trail connects to the accessible stonedust/bituminous concrete path, which runs throughout the property linking the parks passive and active recreation areas.

A 50-foot pier adjacent to the picnic pavilion allows park goes the opportunity to overlook Union Pond. The pier extends out over Union Pond at a height of 18 feet above the water, and is a great place for observing the many birds that make the pond their home!  We have: hawks, blue heron, and ducks (to name a few). In the fall, the observation deck will provide a spectacular view of New England color.

The pier compliments the park’s pavilion that is available for rental by individuals and groups. Please note that summer weekends book especially quickly. Policies, rental fees and other information are available in the link below.

Boundless Playground

The Recreation Division worked with the town’s volunteer Boundless Playground Committee and Boundless Playgrounds Inc. of Bloomfield, CT to develop a Boundless Playground in Northwest Park. The playground was designed so that all children, the fully able, as well as those who have physical, sensory and developmental disabilities, can play together. The play area for ages 5-12 opened in May of 2003.

The Northwest Park Boundless Playground is a barrier-free, 70% wheelchair accessible, developmentally appropriate, sensory rich, fun and safe playground for children of all abilities. The playground has an area designed for children ages 2-5 and an area designed for ages 5-12. The playground includes restrooms at the site.
