Free Downtown Walking Tour

Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m., visit Downtown with Manchester’s Town Historian, Susan Barlow. Meet at the corner of Main and Forest Streets, in the town parking lot. We will stroll along Main Street to view historic buildings, one dating back to 1899, and in many cases buildings that have found a new purpose since their original construction, for example, the former State Theater, built in 1924, is now the Full Gospel Interdenominational Church. The walk will take up to 1-1/2 hours, and will be held rain or shine. This is the fifth of the 23 walks in 2023 that the Town Historian is leading in celebration of the Town’s 200th anniversary. Booklets with details about the walks are available at the libraries, Town Hall Customer Service, and the History Center, 175 Pine Street. The next two walks, both at 1:00 p.m.: • Saturday, March 18, Hollywood Plaza at 283 East Center Street, and • Saturday, April 8, Porter Street reservoirs, starting at 395 Porter Street. An online version of the 23 walks booklet is available on the Events page of www.manchesterhistory.org, where there’s lots of info about local history.
